Custom Machine Quilting

Quilt Preparation Tips
The better the quilt is prepared, the better the finished quilt will be. Consider the following steps as you prepare to bring your project in for machine quilting:
Quilt tops and backings should lay flat to avoid puckers when quilted.
Excess fabrics in borders can result in puckers during quilting.
*Tip to prevent quilting puckers: Measure your quilt and backing across the top, at the center and at the bottom. These three measurements should be the same. If not, make necessary adjustments prior to quilting.
Have seams well pressed and clip threads that could show through under light fabric area
Check for any seams that are not caught in your ¼” seam allowance. These can come apart when the top is stretched on the frame. Be sure that all seams that come to the edge of the quilt are backstitched. These can come loose if not well enforced when stretched on the frame.
To eliminate stretching, stitch around the outer edges of the quilt top a scant ¼ inch from raw edge.
The backing fabric needs to be a minimum of 6” larger than the height and width of your quilt top. Please have your backing squared and pressed.
Selvages should be removed from seam.  Selvages left on your quilt backing can cause your quilt backing to not lie flat at the seam line.
Please, no sheets as backing.  Sheets have a different thread count
Label the top of the quilt and backing if there is a difference.  If backing is directional, we will not put it on sideways.
Do not baste or pin the quilt layers together,  they are loaded on the long arm frame separately.
